2016 Youth Friendly Community Award
The Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture department was recognized as a Youth Friendly Community by Parks and Recreation Ontario (PRO) on April 7 for their youth programs and for demonstrating a strong commitment to engaging youth.
Excellence in Design Award
The Town of Newmarket’s HollisWealth Story Pod received the Excellence in Design Award from Parks and Recreation Ontario (PRO) on April 7 for demonstrating exceptional innovation in design, presentation and implementation.
Excellence in Innovation Award
The Recreation Pop Up Shop - a temporary storefront delivered by the Town's Recreation and Culture department - received the Excellence in Innovation Award from Parks and Recreation Ontario (PRO) on April 7 for demonstrating exceptional innovation in its concept and execution.
Burlington Cup Award
The Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture department won the Burlington Cup Award for delivering extraordinary lifesaving and aquatics programs. This award is presented to the Municipal affiliate with the largest lifesaving program in a community with a population between 50,000 and 100,000 residents. Points are awarded based on the completion of certifications. The Town also received mention and thanks for hosting the Ontario Lifeguard Championships in August 2015.
EDCO Innovative Community Award
The Town of Newmarket’s
Economic Development department was presented with the Innovative
Community Award at the 2016 Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO)
conference on February 4 for Newmarket’s Collaborative Community Ecosystem (CCE) video.
Smart Commute Work Place Recognition
Newmarket received gold level recognition for its commitment to providing programs on commuter options for all employees, leadership in corporate social responsibility, and as a great place to work. By increasing awareness of transportation options and ensuring business continuity during the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games, the Town was committed to promoting and supporting sustainable travel options for the organization.
Excellence in Municipal Systems Award
This award is given to Ontario Municipalities by The Municipal Information Systems Association of Ontario (MISA) for undertaking a significant initiative or have set new standards that other municipalities may follow. The Town of Newmarket was awarded this award for its implementation of the Digital Pen program for our Public Works Services department.
Urisa-OC 2016 People's Choice Apps Award
Attendees at an annual Urisa Ontario BeSpatial conference held in May 2016 voted on their favorite app during the People’s Choice Apps event and Newmarket’s IT GIS Team won for the Best App. The app was created for the Playgrounds and Parks Improvement PIC held early this year.
