The Town of Newmarket is pleased to inform residents that the Town of Newmarket will be installing a new Type B Pedestrian Crossover (PXO) on Gorham Street, at Muriel Street as a pilot project. This new PXO is part of the Town’s ongoing efforts to enhance pedestrian safety and support active transportation in the community.
The Town’s contractor for this project is Beacon Utility Contractors Limited, with Ainley Group providing design and construction support. Construction is anticipated to begin in July 2025, during the school break, with overall completion expected by August 2025. Once started, the work at the site is expected to be completed within one to two weeks.
The work includes the installation of two poles, each with a mast arm and PXO equipment, new pavement markings and signage, and curb & sidewalk modifications.
As with all construction projects, nearby residents and road users may experience minor noise, dust, and minor vibration. The Town and its contractor will work to minimize these impacts.
The road will remain open to traffic for the majority of the construction period; however, single-lane closures may occur when necessary. Every effort will be made to minimize the duration and impact of these closures.
Please note that when school is in session, a School Crossing Guard will continue to supervise the crossing as usual to ensure the safety of students in the area.
We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve pedestrian safety in your neighbourhood.
