Tom Vegh was re-elected to Office as Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor for the Town of Newmarket, representing the Town on both Town Council and York Region Council.

Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor Tom Vegh As Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor, Tom's priority is to work with residents, business owners, community agencies, and each ward councillor to build vibrant and healthy neighbourhoods. His focus is on responsible development, securing more affordable seniors' housing and seniors' services, safer residential streets, and enhanced recreational amenities in neighbourhoods. He will continue to ensure that taxes remain among the lowest in York Region and that high-quality municipal services are delivered in a professional and cost-efficient manner.

Tom was first elected to public office in 2000 as a Newmarket Councillor-at-Large.  From 2006 to 2018, Tom served as Ward 1 Councillor in Newmarket.  As Ward 1 Councillor, Tom's priority was the safety and enjoyment of neighbourhoods - bringing many amenities and environmental initiatives to the Ward, including trail expansions, a state-of-the-art splash pad, local park events, an annual community clean-up event, and security lighting in parks. 

During his tenure in office, Tom has served in a number of leadership and committee positions, including:  Acting Mayor; Chair, Smart Newmarket Task Force; Vice-Chair, Newmarket Public Library Board; Vice-Chair, Newmarket Inclusivity Committee; Chair, Site Plan Review Committee; Chair, Town of Newmarket/Library Efficiency Task Force; and member of the Newmarket Environmental Advisory Committee.

Tom has also served on the Board of Directors of the Newmarket Historical Society and the Elman W. Campbell Museum.

Raised in Newmarket, Tom holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree from York University.  He has a 25-year track record as a community leader in the non-profit sector, holding both executive and consulting positions. He has extensive experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets and working with all levels of government.

Tom and his wife, Angela, have raised their family here and are proud to call Newmarket their home.
