Flags at Town of Newmarket and Central York Fire Services' facilities have been lowered to half-mast in honour of His Holiness Pope Francis. The Town of Newmarket offers its deepest condolences to the Catholic and broader Christian communities following the passing of Pope Francis. As the first Jesuit and the first pope from the Americas, his leadership was defined by a deep commitment to compassion, humility, and social justice. He tirelessly championed the rights of the marginalized, advocated for environmental stewardship, and worked to foster unity across faiths and communities.  

We join our community and the world in mourning his loss. 

Flags will remain at half-mast until Saturday, April 26.
